Accessibility Statement
Last reviewed: October 3, 2026
El Taquito wants everyone to be able to read our menu, check our hours and place an order — including people who browse with a screen reader, navigate by keyboard, or need larger text and stronger colour contrast. This page explains what we have done, what we know is not finished, and how to reach a human if something on this site gets in your way.
The standard we work to
We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. That is the benchmark referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act guidance and by California's accessibility law, and it is what we measure this site against.
What we have done
- Every page can be operated by keyboard alone — including the navigation menu on phones and the specials calendar — and the element you are on always shows a visible focus outline.
- Photographs carry text descriptions, and decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them instead of reading filenames.
- Text and background colours are checked against the 4.5:1 contrast ratio WCAG asks for, and every page has been checked at a 320-pixel-wide screen — the equivalent of 400% zoom — without anything scrolling sideways or being cut off.
- Every form field has a label that is linked to it, so screen readers announce what each box is for.
- Headings follow a real outline, so screen reader users can jump through a page by structure rather than reading it top to bottom.
- The restaurant picker in the header opens and closes by keyboard, says which restaurant is selected, and never hides content. Sharing your location to find the nearest restaurant is optional.
- A "Skip to content" link lets keyboard users jump past the navigation.
- The menu is real text, not pictures of a menu: every dish, description and price can be read aloud, and prices and opening hours are written so screen readers say "10am to 8pm" rather than skipping the dash.
- Forms (contact, catering and job applications) tell you which fields are required, list any mistakes at the top with a link to each field, and announce when your message has been sent.
- Anything that moves on its own — the scrolling strips on the home page — has a Pause button, pauses when you hover or tab into it, and does not move at all if your device is set to reduce motion.
- Spanish phrases are marked as Spanish, so screen readers pronounce them correctly.
What we know is not finished
We would rather tell you than have you find out:
- Some headings and buttons sit on top of photographs. We believe these remain readable, but they are harder to guarantee than plain text on a solid colour, and we are still reviewing them.
- Menu items do not yet all carry dietary or allergen labelling. If you need to know how something is prepared, please call us — we would rather answer than have you guess.
- Online ordering and delivery are handled by outside companies (Toast, DoorDash, Grubhub and Uber Eats). Once you follow one of those links you are on their website, and we do not control its accessibility. If one of them blocks you, call us and we will take your order over the phone.
- We have tested with automated tools, by keyboard, and by reviewing what screen readers announce on every page. A full run-through by a person who relies on a screen reader every day has not been done yet; it is planned.
If something here does not work for you
Tell us and we will fix it — and in the meantime we will get you what you needed another way. Ordering by phone is always available during opening hours.

How this site is checked
Accessibility is reviewed when the site changes, not only once. Before each update we test every public page, as both restaurants and at phone and desktop sizes: automated WCAG checks, colour contrast and focus visibility measured on the rendered pages, keyboard navigation, zoom and text spacing, and what screen readers announce. The date at the top of this page is the last time that review was run.
